Nordic Spa in Quebec City: Old Quebec Spa or Stoneham, and Who Can Go
4 min read
A Nordic spa is a circuit of hot and cold water, not a massage appointment: you move between hot tubs, saunas, a cold plunge and quiet rest areas at your own pace. Quebec City has two options on GetYourGuide, one beside Old Quebec and one in a river valley outside the city. They suit different people, and neither admits children under 14.
The Old Quebec spa
The Strøm Nordic Spa thermal experience sits on Boulevard Champlain by the St. Lawrence River. The listing places it a few steps from Old Quebec and the cruise terminal. It costs €62.27, is rated 4.8/5 and has 1,157 reviews.
The listing describes outdoor whirlpools, thermal and Nordic baths, Finnish saunas, a eucalyptus steam bath, thermal and Nordic waterfalls and relaxation areas with fireplaces. The ticket covers entry, a bathrobe and towel rental and a locker. It does not fix a time, so you can arrive at any point in the opening hours, which can change. The spa is open in all weather, but the outdoor pools may be restricted during thunderstorms.
Food, drinks, massages and tips are not part of the thermal entry and cost extra. The on-site restaurant serves Scandinavian-inspired food with a view of the river.
The Stoneham spa
The Nordique spa Stoneham thermal experience is a different outing. It lies on the Jacques-Cartier River, less than 30 minutes from Quebec City according to the listing, and the ticket is valid for a full day. It costs €70.08 and has 26 reviews, so there is much less feedback than for the Old Quebec spa.
The entry includes a bathrobe, two towels, a locker and parking. The listing names Finnish saunas, Turkish steam baths, outdoor hot tubs, Nordic baths and access to the river. A bistro, massages and lodging in small houses are available for a supplement. Getting there from the city is up to you: the listing gives the address and includes no transfer.
| Spa | Setting | Minimum age on the listing | Ticket covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strøm Nordic Spa, Old Quebec | Riverside, next to Old Quebec | 16 years | Entry, robe, towel, locker |
| Nordique spa Stoneham | River valley outside the city | 18; ages 14 to 17 only with a parent | Full-day entry, robe, two towels, locker, parking |
Who it suits, and who it does not
Both listings name the same groups they are not suitable for: pregnant women, people with mobility impairments and people with heart problems. The Old Quebec spa excludes children under 16; the Stoneham spa excludes children under 14 and asks that clients be 18 or older, with 14 to 17-year-olds welcome when accompanied by a parent. This is not an outing for a family with young children.
Bring swimwear and sandals. The Old Quebec listing also asks for toiletries and bans cameras, phones, food and drinks, and luggage or large bags; Stoneham bans food and drinks and suggests a reusable bottle.
Our verdict
For most visitors staying in the city, the Old Quebec spa is the easy choice: it is close to the walled town, does not fix a start time and works as a warm-up after a cold walk. Pick Stoneham if you want a full day by the river and can manage the trip yourself. Pair either with a morning on an Old Quebec walking tour, and see the winter activities page, where 12 offers start at €20.39, for the cold-season alternatives.
